Deep Brain Stimulation
Deep brain stimulation is a procedure through which electrodes are implanted within the brain that generates electrical impulses and helps regulate abnormal waves or impulses in the brain or can affect the functions of certain cells and chemicals within the brain. The amount of electric waves to be sent to the brain are controlled by a device that is generally placed in the upper chest beneath the skin and is connected to the electrodes through a wire internally.

What is deep brain stimulation (DBS?)
DBS is often described as a pacemaker for the brain. It works much like a pacemaker, sending electrical signals to the brain instead of the heart.
When it is used?
It is primarily utilized for patients who have Parkinson’s disease, dystonia, or essential tremor (ET), and who can’t adequately control their disease with medication.
Who is eligible for DBS?
There are somewhat different criteria for determining if DBS is a good option for you based on your diagnosis and condition.
What does DBS feel like when the device is on?
During the initial programming of the DBS, individuals may experience a temporary shock or tingling as placement and levels are adjusted.
How is the improvement?
Improvement varies from patient to patient, but most DBS patients experience dramatic improvement as much as a 70 percent reduction in symptoms.
