Dilation and curettage (D&C) is a procedure done to remove the tissues from the uterus. It is done to treat certain uterine conditions that may include heavy bleeding or to clear the uterine lining mostly after a miscarriage or abortion. In a dilation and curettage procedure, the doctor uses small instruments to dilate the cervix which is the lower, narrow part of your uterus. Following which a surgical instrument called a curette is used to remove uterine tissue.
