Tummy Tuck Surgery In India

Tummy Tuck Surgery In India

A tummy tuck surgery or abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure performed to flatten the abdomen area by removing excess fat and skin. It also tightens the abdominal wall muscles. Many prefer an abdominoplasty after pregnancy or a weight loss surgery. Tummy tuck surgery is helpful for women who have developed a sagging tummy post pregnancy and for slightly obese people with extensive fat around the abdomen region. A tummy tuck surgery is different from a liposuction procedure. However, liposuction may be performed in conjunction with abdominoplasty, in some cases.

How is tummy tuck done?

There are two types of tummy tuck procedures depending on the extent of extra skin to be removed:

  • Complete abdominoplasty- The abdomen is operated upon from hipbone to hipbone and the skin, tissue, and muscles are contoured. Your belly button will be moved, and you may need drainage tubes under your skin for a few days.
  • Partial or mini abdominoplasty- This a lesser invasive procedure performed on people whose fat deposits are located below the navel.

The main steps involved in a tummy tuck surgery are:

  • Step 1- Anesthesia

Your doctor will give you either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia prior to the procedure.

  • Step 2- The incision

A horizontal incision is made in the area between the pubic hairline and belly button for carrying out a full tummy tuck. The shape and length of the incision will depend on the amount of excess skin. Once the abdominal skin is lifted, the underlying weakened abdominal muscles are operated on. A second incision around the navel may be made to remove excess skin in the upper abdomen area. The excess skin is pulled down and trimmed and the remaining skin is sutured together. A new belly button is then created surgically.

  • Step 3- Closing the incisions

Sutures, tapes or staples are used to close the skin incisions.

  • Step 4- Observe for results

A flatter and firmer abdominal contour that is more proportionate with your body type and weight is the result expected from the surgery.

What are the risks associated with a tummy tuck surgery?

Potential risks from a tummy tuck surgery are:

  • Issues related to anesthesia
  • Bleeding at the surgical site
  • Infection of the wound
  • Fluid accumulation beneath the skin or seroma
  • Poor wound healing
  • Scarring or skin loss
  • Numbness
  • Skin discoloration
  • Fat necrosis or tissue death
  • Deep vein thrombosis, cardiac or pulmonary complications
  • Poor outcome which may need further corrective surgeries
  • Persistent pain

What results are to be expected from a tummy tuck surgery?

The final results of a tummy tuck surgery will take time to show due to swelling and time needed for internal healing. Within a week or two, your new slimmer profile will be evident. The scars from the procedure may take several months to fade. Sometimes follow up surgeries may be recommended to achieve the best results. Following your tummy tuck surgeon’s instructions diligently is essential to the success of your surgery.
